Economics and Consciousness

I recently received an article by Carl Johan Calleman entitled "The Rebirth Celebration – The midpoint of the Sixth DAY of the Galactic Underworld, May 9-11, 2009." In the event you are not familiar with his work Calleman is a leading authority and researcher on the Mayan Long Count calendar. He has done some remarkable work with correlating historical events to key transition or harmonic shift points on the Mayan Calendar. I highly recommend his two books entitled, "Solving the Greatest Mystery of our Time: The Mayan Calendar" and "The Mayan Calendar and the Transformation of Consciousness."

It was in his book "The Mayan Calendar and the Transformation of Consciousness" that Calleman predicted there would be an economic collapse corresponding to the start of the 5th Night in the Galactic Underworld. This point in the Mayan Calendar occurred in November 2007, and most experts now agree the economic crisis began in earnest in December of 2007.

Calleman's article stated:

"This prediction was based on the fact that throughout cosmic history the 5th Night has been a time when the old order often has come to be destroyed."

Indeed, Calleman then relates that the last time previous that we entered a 5th Night cycle was in the Planetary Underworld back in 1932 when the Great Depression occurred.

Calleman goes on to say that he does not feel that is likely there will be an economic recovery the way it is being currently envisioned because "the cosmic plan we are now in the Galactic Underworld. . . does not have economic and technological development as its primary purpose." Rather, "On the contrary, the Galactic Underworld is about broadening the human horizon to a holistic viewpoint where we show concern for all of creation and the whole planet, which the world’s economic system has increasingly come in conflict with."

Calleman also goes on to speak briefly to the problems with an economic system based on perpetual growth which then requires credit to keep it going because in truth it is essentially not in harmony with natural laws and the consciousness evolution taking place in our world. This really spoke to me because for years I have been feeling that we have to move away from an economy which used growth of the bottom line and GNP/GDP as its measure of success and into an economic model that used how well a company or organization served its customers or clients as the measure for its success.

In this model a business could be hugely successful and yet only grow in proportion to the actual need for more of its services or products that truly served the needs of its community(s). A company could exist for quite sometime with the same income figures and yet be seen as highly successful and would also be highly valued by its customers or clients for the care and service that it offered them.

This is vastly different than the approach prevalent now wherein the game is to "creatively" dream up new ways of getting people to believe they need something that is in truth perhaps virtually useless and only uses up valuable natural and human resources for the sake of growing the bottom line for shareholders at any expense.

From a unity consciousness perspective we would see that the production of useless or redundant things for the sake of profit is hurting the company that produces them as well as its customers. We are all interconnected, companies are organizations of people. So in this situation we have people hurting people and themselves, and in the process they contribute to the destruction of our environment for nothing but growth and profit.

In addition to switching from a growth-driven economy to a service-driven economy we also need to move from the current competitive model to a cooperative model for business. Synergy, cooperation and partnering are the way of the future. In such a model the different businesses and organizations work to support each other and everyone benefits. Mondragon Business Cooperatives have been used successfully in Spain since 1955 and their model is a good place to start looking for clues as how to begin transforming our economy and what the business world of the future may be like.

Ultimately the root of any problem is always a lack of adequate awareness. Einstein once said that "We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them." This points in the direction of an expanded awareness if we wish to move beyond our problems. Expanding awareness will result in increasingly being able to perceive our inter-connectedness with each other and all things as a unified collective consciousness.

The question we each need to ask ourselves is what can we each do right now to start living this new awareness in our own lives so that we can give this consciousness a stronger presence in our world that is anchored in innovative action. To explore this is perhaps a worthy focus for a future article. For now we can each ponder this question for ourselves in the meantime and then we must act on whatever comes to us.

As we watch our world attempting to recover from the current economic crisis it is vitally important to keep the evolutionary energies of the Mayan Calendar in mind. Something significant is going to have to happen that will fundamentally change the way business is being done in this world. When human beings do not have awareness then what we call negative, adverse or bad things occur to move them in the direction needed. Our current economic crisis is certainly a part of that, will we need more than this to make the shift?

Turhfully, the labels of negative, adverse or bad are but judgements fabricated by the human mind because everything has a universal purpose or it would not exist. If we did not resist or oppose where these types of undesirable experiences are attempting to take us they would not be so awful and we would make the transition to a transformed reality much more quickly and easefully.

We can look right now to how the eight years of the previous administration was so unacceptable to so many people in the world that it actually became the catalyst for radical change wherein Obama was elected as a result. The previous administration is as much responsible for getting Barack Obama elected as president as are the voters who supported him and the movement for change.

Let us be thankful there is a Greater Intelligence, Awareness and Love that knows exactly what it is doing in response to whatever limited efforts we may put forth and regardless of their outcome or direction. It is the harmonics which govern consciousness evolution generated by this Intelligence that are represented in the Mayan Long Count calendar. Out of this economic crisis we are developing consciousness at an amazing rate. We are seeing how interconnected we all truly are across the globe. This is happening now and is no longer confined to darkened parlors with candles, crystals, incense and dedicated meditators, but is takig place in major government offices and interactions in the business world. Progress!

The economic crisis also has meant for many that we are l being called to strengthen our bonds with our friends and allies and to help each other out wherever we can. It is in times of crisis that the very best of human beings emerges into expression. Perhaps this will be the last time we need to have it occur through crisis on planet Earth, that is my ultimate prayer. With adequate awareness we will see our imminent problems precognitively and move accordingly to avoid them.

I for one am dedicating this economic crisis, which has definitely been felt profoundly by myself and some others I know, to the liberation of humanity from the tyranny of competitive growth-oriented economics forever. Additionally every human being has a right to basic needs being provided such as a place to live, adequate food, proper sanitation, clean water and air, medical care and people that love them. If we were committed to provide such things adequately to every human being on Earth I suspect it would go a long way to eliminating a significant portion of the costs of welfare, crime, drug abuse, alcoholism, lost productivity and a host of other problems that are debilitating our civilized societies.

The 661 billion dollars we have spent thus far on the Iraq war alone could have made significant inroads towards accomplishing this objective as that is approximately $100.00 USD for every person on Earth (6.77 billion). Such goals are within our reach if we focus our available resources in the right way to help each other rather than destroy, outsmart or out-compete each other.

The costs of war and a competitive growth-driven economy are no longer acceptable when we have other much more fundamental needs for these resources as a collective humanity. It is in my opinion inhumane and perhaps even criminal to continue on with these old ways of doing things once we have realized that the only possible result is more poverty, starvation, disease, crime, terrorism, pollution and other forms of environmental destruction.

This all seems rather hopeless from one perspective. So much to be accomplished and too few people with enough awareness to actually see what we must do. Yet, I keep having this sense that the shifts in awareness which are now occurring are going to escalate enormously. Think about this for a minute: one morning we awaken, and 80 percent of the people on Earth have gone through a significant shift in awareness overnight. They are a bit confused and disoriented because so much of what they once believed in or perceived to be true they now see quite differently.

I believe this is largely how this seemingly huge transformation is going to take place. I experienced shifts like this in September 1992 and then again in June 1999. In 1999 it was a very subtle shift with very profound implications. It has taken me nearly 10 years to fully integrate and understand what happened in 1999. I believe what the Mayan Long Count Calendar is telling us is that in 2011-2012 people worldwide are going to experience such shifts in awareness enmasse due to the changing harmonics which govern consciousness evolution. It may take awhile for these shifts in awareness to be fully understood and integrated, but we will start seeing the results manifesting in our world in many ways soon thereafter.

This is going to result in a huge shift in values which will then drive the economic transformation forward in the right direction. We can in many ways see that these shifts are already in full swing. The fact that Barack Obama was elected president of the USA is a clear indicator large change is already in motion and has been for some time. Yet, what I am speaking of in terms of this shift in awareness is much more than this. It is a profound shift where one day people see things one way and the next day they see things radically differently. Oh boy, this is going to be fun, yes?
